You can heat canned food on the side. I prefer to open my can after I warmed it up, because it's darn difficult to stir food inside a small can, so here is what I do: 1. Stove on. 2. Can on the stove 3. Listen. 4. When gets noisy, turn it around/upside down/whatever. Do 3 and 4 until food inside the can reaches desired temperature (it takes about 5 min.) If top/bottom bulges, you already overheated your food, and it's going to be too hot. And a word of caution: DO NOT LEAVE CANNED FOOD UNATTENDED ON STOVE !!! or do, but you gonna hate cleaning up the mess. Actually, I should say, do not leave burning stove unattended. A friend of mine did. He left his hot stove in his tent while he went to pee in the bush. A minute later the stove metamorphosed into a flare-gun burning his cool little tent and his brand new down sleeping bag. He was damn cold and pissed off that night.
